Urban Secrets

Our cities are full of secrets. And our experience of urban space depends on our mode of transportation. In a car, we use the streets according to a different set of rules than on foot. The world seen from the skateboard is the most amazing of all. Riding down the street, it turns the enjoyment of architecture into a whole-body experience. Something a normal person sees as a simple construction changes into something completely in the eyes of a skateboarder.

In his book “Urban Secrets” skateboarding photographer Helge Tscharn shows us the world seen from the perspective of a skateboarder. It’s a wonderful world indeed.

The Island

This is the second episode of Juan Rayos and Longboard Girls Crew project “Endless roads”.

In the second episode, the girls take the ferry and head to Mallorca, where they will be spending the next days travelling and skating the rocky island. New friends and local riders join the girls for this stage and some crazy downhill.

“Biarritz by Night”

French film company West Films recently released a short video “Biarritz by Night.”

Shot and edited by filmmaker Pierre Untas it shows a rarely seen, skateboarding side of the coastal city in South West France.

Instead of featuring the region’s world famous beach-breaks, Untas takes to the streets of Biarritz, showing off the some great skate spots.

Living beyond limits

Amy Purdy has been through hardships that most of us will never face — or can even fathom. But what makes her story so incredible is not that fact that she lived a “normal” childhood then tragically lost her legs at age 19, but how she has persevered, taking implausible challenges and rising above them.

Today, Amy is an athlete; currently the top ranked adaptive female snowboarder in the world. Amy also spends a good amount of time helping others; specifically those with physical challenges get involved with snowboarding, skateboarding, wakeboarding and other action sports through the organization she co-founded Adaptive Action Sports. Challenging herself while making a positive impact on the world is a true testament to Amy’s spirit.

Endless Roads 1 – Yellow Horizons

In this first chapter, Jacky, Valeria, Carlota & Gador welcome Maitane, who’s coming from the Basque Country; Marisa coming from Miami and Amanda from Massachusetts. Together, they start their journey traveling 600 km in the van in order to get to Cabo de Gata Natural Area, in Almería. They spend three days over there, enjoying unique volcanic-origin landscapes, the deep blue sea breaking against the winding coastline, August relentless sun and secondary roads that leads to small towns and coves in the Mediterranean coast.
