Jamie Hewlett, the artist that worked with Damon Albarn on bringing to life a virtual band Gorillaz, has inaugurated his new exihibition called Under Water Colours. It is inspired by Jamie’s recent trip to with Oxfam and it features nine watercolours.

“This exhibition shows how climate change is already affecting people around the world but also how we can all do something now to stop this from getting completely out of control.”

The whole idea of the trip was to draw attention to climate change and it’s influence on the developing world. Jamie have met families that have lost their homes and relatives in floods, that are trying to make their living under a threat of fast rising sea levels.

Jamie Hewlett: “Char Atra is such an idyllic place and it’s horrific to think of it being simply washed away, devastating the community. I wanted my paintings to be optimistic as well as realistic and I wanted to show what a beautiful place it is. I hope by concentrating on the people and their every day lives that I have given people here in Britain something they can relate to.”

Under Water Colours is open to the public from October 17 – 31 at Dray Walk Gallery, Truman Brewery, London.
