‘The Bourgeois Bicycle Caravan’ newspaper

In the Autumn of 2009, the trio of jimmy Bodean, Harold Hobart Hellybutt & Del Da-Foster embarked on an expedition, along the western coast of France, by bicycle. With trailers brimming with only essential stuff (surfyboards, box cameras, pencils and books of russian beat poetry) the trio went in search of the image perfect and the ultimate rambling tale.

This is the outcome… 20 pages, full colour, 100% recycled, self published, tabloid format newspaper… £2.50 including postage … just to cover the print and posting costs… they won’t be makin any money!

The photographer George Foulds and and the writer from Tasmania James Bowden “in the interests of artistic self-preservation and rambling adventure” are currently biking down the French Atlantic coast with surfboards in tow. Their expedition is called ‘The Bourgeois Bicycle Caravan’.

The journey is being documented in their blog bourgeoisbicycle.com

James Bowden: “Plunging southwards along the western seaboard of France, the caravan will be a concert of motion, conducted from the seat of a bicycle. There will be trailers brimming full with necessities. Surfboards, cameras, pens and pencils and books of Russian beat poetry. This experiment will no doubt encounter waves of consequence, Wild West frontier folk and an endless road of tumultuous joy.”

Bicycle Film Festival London

The Bicycle Film Festival comes to London on September 23 – 27 and features film screenings, demos, critical mass and a polo tournament.

Bike movies like Breaking Away, Where are you go, Tour of Legends and The Third Wheel will be shown over four days in the Barbican alongside an organised ride from west to east and after parties from Rollapaluza and I HEART BFF.

The fest will finish with an all-dayer bike polo tournament in Newington Gardens.

The Brooklyn Element is the new project between Element and Brooklyn Machine Works It will consist of a head to toe apparel pack and bike “ideal for alternative transportation, in all environments.” Element Founder Johnny Schillereff, Brooklyn Machine Works founder Joe Avedisian and Pharrell Williams himself were on hand to announce this great news in Los Angeles on Saturday.

Preliminary contextual research shows its performance in real world situations is best when lighting conditions are at their worst, improving safety in the most critical situations.
