German Kristin Boese has secured her mark in the sport’s history by winning the Guinness World Records™ for the most kite-boarding world championships attained by a woman athlete. The certificate states: “The most kite surfing world championships won by a woman is nine and was achieved by Kristin Boese (Germany) between 2005 to 2008.”

Boese is the owner of nine World Championship titles, with the ninth title in the wave discipline recently officially recognized.

Ralph Hannah, Records Manager at Guinness World Records comments:
“We are delighted to recognize Kristin’s numerous kitesurfing world championships with a Guinness World Records™ certificate for the most kitesurfing world championships won by a woman.”

“Between 2005 and 2008 she has won an incredible nine world titles which are a combination of sanctioned events in wave, boardercross, slider and kicker, freestyle, course racing disciplines and overall titles. This also includes the 2005 PKRA Wave title, which despite being a single event we still considered the winner to be the world leader in wave riding at the time and have therefore recognized it as a world title, just as the male winner was considered the 2005 Wave world champion.”

Boese showed an incredible variety of riding by winning these titles in five different disciplines, 2x freestyle, 2x wave, 2x course race, 1x slider & kicker, 1x Boarder-cross, and 1x Overall Title. This year she is first in the official International Kiteboarding Association (ISAF class) world ranking in course racing and also finished second in the one-off world championship event.

Kristin says: “I remember watching Guinness record attempts on TV when I was little and thinking how amazing it was that these people had done something that had never been achieved before. It makes me proud to actually be one of them now and it is a very special achievement for me.”

Mauricio Toscano, president of the Professional Kite-board Riders Association (PKRA), says: “Kristin Boese is an extremely talented athlete. She has competed in the PKRA Kiteboarding World Tour since 2002 and through the years she has become an icon in the kiteboarding world, by conquering more World titles than anyone else. As the PKRA world tour has always focused on promoting both the sport of kiteboarding and the riders, it is great to see this kind of success story.”

A natural rider, she started competing the same year she began kiteboarding (2002) and ended up ranked twelfth in the world that year, followed by fourth place in 2003 and second place in 2004. When she started her career the only competition discipline that existed was freestyle. As the sport developed she expanded with the newly recognized disciplines with much practice and preparation backed up with motivation. She proved her mettle by winning her first and second titles (freestyle) against competitors who on average were 10 years younger than her.

“When I first started competing,” she says, “I could only dream of maybe being the best female kiter in the world one day and becoming world champion. There was no way I could plan or even think of becoming this successful in the sport. However, after winning a few world championship titles I made it my goal to not only become the female kite-boarder with the most world championship titles, but also to push our sport and support female riders all over the world.”

The blonde beauty is very visible in the media and has also taken the sport to the masses through her modeling and photo shoots for magazines such as Vogue, Playboy and Max plus her kite-boarding videos are shown online in a number of sources.

A list of her titles reads as follows:
2005 PKRA Freestyle World Champion
2005 PKRA Wave World Champion
2006 PKRA Freestyle
2006 PKRA Slider World Champion
2007 PKRA Boarder-cross World Champion
2007 KPWT Overall World Champion
2007 KPWT Course Race World Champion
2007 KPWT Wave-riding World Champion
2008 KPWT Course-race World Champion

Tension is mounting for the seventh edition of the biggest snowboard event for girls only: at the Roxy Chicken Jam 2010 from the 8th to the 10th of January 2010, snowboard stars like Cheryl Maas (NED), Kjersti Buaas Oestgaard (NOR), Janna Meyen-Weatherby (USA), Sarka Pancochova (CZE) and Lisa Filzmoser (AUT) will fly high over the kickers of Saalbach Hinterglemm and set the rails of the Nightpark on fire! Parties and live concerts with Bunny Lake and the Wax Wreckaz will additionally contribute to make this weekend a true freestyle festival.

With only a few weeks to go before the Olympic Winter Games 2010 will start and being a 6-star event of the TTR Women’s Snowboard Tour, the Roxy Chicken Jam 2010 is the perfect opportunity for the world’s best female snowboarders to show their tricks under competitive conditions and to determine their position among competitors. Hence, the current leader of the Swatch TTR Women’s Ranking List, Sarka Pancochova (CZE), has confirmed to come to Saalbach Hinterglemm, just as four-time X Games gold medallist Janna Meyen-Weatherby (USA) who already presented herself in good form at the New Zealand Open 2009 where she took second place. The third of that important summer event, Shelly Gotlieb (NZL), will also be at the start, just like double Roxy Chicken Jam winner, Cheryl Maas (NED), the fourth of the TTR ranking, Lisa Wiik (NOR), or stars like Kjersti Buaas Oestgaard (NOR), Jenny Jones (GBR) and Tania Detomas (ITA). Lisa Filzmoser (AUT) from Wels in Upper Austria will try to capture a place on the podium for the local Austrians.

At the Roxy Chicken Jam 2010 at Saalbach Hinterglemm, Salzburg County/Austria, the snow park and the event format will be especially tuned for the needs of the girls. The world’s best female snowboarders will present their show-stopping slopestyle tricks only 200 metres away from the centre of Hinterglemm. At the Nightpark at Unterschwarzachlift, they will prove their creativity and style on two jib sets and a triple kicker line fighting for the US$ 50,000 prize-money.

The Roxy Chicken Jam will be held as a carbon neutral event. The compensation for the effects on the environment and the avoidance of CO2 and garbage are in the foreground. “The Quiksilver group being committed to sustainability and the protection of the environment, it is a great step to have the Roxy Chicken Jam being held as a neutral event”, says Maritxu Darrigrand who is in charge of sustainable development at Roxy and Quiksilver. The emissions that will be produced at the production of artificial snow, at the use of the snow grooming vehicles, at the concert and at the journeys will be compensated in co-operation with the Suddenrush Atlantic Rainforest Institution (SRAFRI). Snowboard stars like Terje Haakonsen (NOR) and Nicolas Mueller (SUI) are actively involved in this project aiming to sustainably preserve the rainforest at the Brazilian Atlantic coastline (further information: atlanticrainforest.org).

Apart from the sporting highlights at the snow park, concerts and DJ sets will make the Roxy Chicken Jam a big freestyle festival. Prior to the prize-giving, Innsbruck’s Wax Wreckaz DJ crew will drop some heavy beats at the Reiterkogel valley station. After the award ceremony, the electro underground collective Bunny Lake from Vienna will rock the crowd. Finally, an after-show party will top off the weekend.

After much anticipation, Burton unveils today the US Snowboard Team Uniforms for the upcoming 2010 Winter Olympics. This February, as the US Snowboard Team steps onto the World’s stage in Vancouver, they will look and feel unmatched with designs that speak to both individuality and heritage, key hallmarks of the Burton brand and the snowboard culture. Building on their long-standing relationship with Gore, Burton has enhanced their own unique designs with the Gore-Tex® brand.

The Olympic uniforms feature a fresh and progressive style while also managing to pay tribute to more classic Americana fashion staples. The pants seamlessly integrate the look of real, worn, vintage denim, and the jackets feature preppy plaids adorned with leather patches and chenille crests with both pieces incorporating the performance benefits of Gore-Tex fabric. All product development at Burton is rider driven and this Olympic outerwear is no exception. Burton held a roundtable discussion with top pro-snowboarders and Olympic hopefuls Elena Hight, Mason Aguirre, Danny Davis, Kevin Pearce, Jack Mitrani, Luke Mitrani, Steve Fisher, Scotty Lago, and Louie Vito to review design concepts for the outerwear before arriving at the final creation.

“Since its inception, Burton has been a rider driven company,” said Jake Burton, Founder and Chairman of Burton Snowboards. “For the creation of the US Snowboard Team uniform, we listened carefully to the riders’ needs and used their input to ensure that the final fit, fabrics and overall design would maximize their performances and take these riders to the podium. It was also absolutely critical to ensure these Olympic uniforms were worthy of bearing the Burton name.”

The partnership with the Gore-Tex brand, the official fabric of the 2010 U.S. Snowboarding Team’s Olympic outerwear, further enhances the technical designs, enabling riders to compete in a variety of cold weather conditions. Gore-Tex fabrics combat the snow, ice, water and wind, while maintaining breathability, keeping riders drier and more comfortable.

“The Olympic team is made up of the best riders in the world and they demand the best in functionality and performance,” says Brad Hill, NA Snowsports Marketing Leader.” As the leader in technical fabrics, our number one priority at Gore is to make sure our products are best in class. By blending Burton’s unique style with the unbeatable comfort and protection found in Gore-Tex fabric we’re confident the uniforms will enable riders to stay focused on the challenges of the event itself, and not on the distractions bad weather can bring.”

Providing support for riders worldwide, Burton is supplying the official uniforms for the Chinese and Finnish snowboarding teams for the 2010 Winter Olympics.

World champion kite-boarding pro Kristin Boese is launching her first world-wide KB4girls kite-boarding tour and looking to etch her indelible mark in this rapidly growing exciting water sport.

Kristin has passionately organized and run a total of 16 girls’ clinics around the world in the past 7 years neither for profit or promotion and even with her own funding just out of passion. But the popularity and interest caught fire and now there is a demand to take the clinics to the next level.

The German cover girl has brought kitesurfing to the masses by modeling and starring in photo shoots for magazines such as Vogue, Playboy and Max to name just a few. But don’t be fooled by the slender beauty’s fragile blonde image, she puts her extreme talent in every twist and turn. She’s got drive and energy with creativity and imagination to go with it.

No surprise then that this year Kiteboarding magazine named her one of the ten most influential athletes in the sport.

Kristin Boese said: “I want to give female kiteboarders of all ages and levels from around the world the opportunity to come together, have fun, learn some new tricks and meet some other girls with the same interest.”

The tour is sponsored by Best Kiteboarding, maker of cutting edge equipment and DaKine manufacturers who are stepping in with lycra prints. SportsFeatures.com is her exclusive press release distribution channel reaching out to sports press around the world.

Ian M. Huschle, President and CEO of Pure Action Sports Worldwide, Inc. said, “Kristin’s ability to reach out and encourage girls to learn and become more involved in kiteboarding, as well as her unprecedented achievements in her kiteboarding career, make her an incredible role model for female kiteboarders.”

“With KB4girls she is creating an amazing product for women around the world and I am sure we will soon see many more female kiters on the beaches. Guys will be jealous to be missing out on this opportunity!”

Kirstin confirmed, “Like most other sports, kite-boarding is pretty male dominated and from my own experience I know how tough and intimidating this can be for female kiteboarders. It can make all the difference if they are in an environment with other females who can encourage them and give them the confidence they need to excel.”

Fiona Wedenig, ex-pro kiteboarder (veteran), Switzerland: “Having witnessed Kristin coach many female kitesurfers over the years, I am confident to say that she is a great teacher and mentor as well as a tireless ambassador for women in this sport. She has achieved countless improvements in kitesurfing and has inspired and paved the way for many younger women.

“I competed many years together with Kristin on the World Cup and realised in that time, how important the support from fellow female kitesurfers is. Being able to train with and learn from each other is one of the best experiences ever!”

Elisha Caulfield (participant in one of the upcoming events): “When I first heard about the KB4girls tour I knew I had to get involved. I’ve never heard of anything like this and the fact the Kristin is giving her time to help other girls is awesome. I have always been fairly competitive with sports but have found that without other girls to push me I’ve become too comfortable with my riding.

“This tour is going to be a fantastic way to network with other girls and see how many awesome chick riders there are in WA. As a result of signing up I have already been motivated to contact other female riders for road trips and down winders. I’ve also felt the need to try some new tricks so that I can learn even better ones when I get to the clinic.”

Kristin also teamed up with Kiehl’s to support World-AIDS-day on December 1st. Next to Heike Makatsch, Irma, and Wotan Wilke Moehring she individually designed a post card for a set of 10 with the net proceedings going to the German AIDS foundation. Her card is a collage made of an action photograph and painted elements reflecting the waves, sun, sky and the thrill of kiteboarding.
