Chris Jordan ‘Midway’ project

Chris Jordan have released the first photos from his Midway project documenting the effect of plastic pollution on albatross in the Pacific. They show carcasses of albatross on Midway Atoll, who have died due to plastic ingestion from the Pacific Trash Vortex.

Jordan flew to Midway Atoll in September along with four others including filmmaker and environmental activist Bill Weaver and Manuel Maqueda, co-founder of the Plastic Pollution Coalition.

Jordan: “To document this phenomenon as faithfully as possible, not a single piece of plastic in any of these photographs was moved, placed, manipulated, arranged, or altered in any way. These images depict the actual stomach contents of baby birds in one of the world’s most remote marine sanctuaries, more than 2000 miles from the nearest continent.”

The photos will be shown at the Center of Art and Nature in Huesca for the Rummaging in the Rubbish: Waste and Recycling in Contemporary Art exhibition from February 5 – May 9, 2010.
